The typical Malaysian terrace house is often kept dark to ‘hide’ from the hot tropical sun. Usually this is achieved by constraining the size and quantity of windows in the house. This house, located in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur is a metaphoric example of the tropical terraced house architecture. The renovation transformed the house in many aspects. One of the main highlights is the creation of  a balcony on the second floor. By removing the existing roof a whole new space is created. The balcony is unique in the neighborhood giving it a private experience. Smart use of large openings and new added shading offer a brighter but still “cooling” residential space.
